Capoeira Connection brings you articles, interviews, books, song lyrics, translations, and other info from the capoeira world. You can explore the site using the list of topics on the right. If you enjoy this site, please share it with others!

When I began capoeira in 2001, I was frustrated with the unavailability/inaccessibility of quality capoeira information, since virtually all of it was written and published in Brazil. At the time, there were only three capoeira books published in English.

After taking my first trip to Brazil in 2004, I got the idea to begin translating texts about capoeira from Portuguese to English. So I began to translate articles and book excerpts, drawing heavily from the website of Mestre Decânio (with his permission and blessing) as well as other sources.

I hope to continue translating, publishing, and spreading knowledge about capoeira to the English-speaking world. Enjoy the site… but remember that capoeira is learned in the roda, not on the Internet – so quit reading and go train!

The capoeirista behind the website

I’ve been playing capoeira for ten years. I began in a small, unaffiliated contemporary capoeira club at my college, and after four years switched to capoeira angola. Today, I’m a member of FICA (Fundação Internacional de Capoeira Angola) in Salvador, Bahia with Mestre Valmir.

I love to correspond with fellow capoeiristas, so if you have a question, comment, or suggestion on the site – or just want to chat – feel free to contact me!
